At the beginning of another year many of us are determined to make positive changes in our lives over the coming year. For some, it will indeed be a year of change where we manage to form new habits and move forward in some areas of our lives. For others it may, sadly, be a case of “plus ca change”. The same list is written, then quietly forgotten within weeks …. if not days!
As every parent of a young girl will know, the popularity of Frozen goes on and on! Frozen – for the uninitiated – was Disney’s smash hit film of 2013. It tells the tale of two Princess sisters – one of whom has the power of freezing – and features several earworm tunes including “Do You Want To Build a Snowman?”.
Pantomime season is upon us ….. oh yes it is!! One of our favourites at DIY Homefit is Cinderella. The cast will always make a great show of the part where Prince Charming arrives at the family home to try the glass slipper on the feet of all ladies present. Despite the best efforts of Cinderella’s step-sisters, it is only when the shoe is tried on Cinderella’s foot that the cry “it fits” sounds forth!
One thing you may not have realised about DIY Homefit is that we supply bedroom furniture as well as bedroom door and drawer fronts. This enables you to create a completely coordinated look when you are doing a bedroom makeover.
The colour black has had a lot of publicity recently with the latest Black Friday having happened on Friday 27th November. Black Friday is the day immediately after Thanksgiving in the US and which increasingly heralds the start of the Christmas shopping season. The reference to black signifies the anticipated health of an organisation’s bank balance after all the profit they make on Black Friday!
As every self-respecting fashionista knows, accessories are all! Whether jewellery, shoes, handbags or hair decorations, the right accessories can make all the different to an outfit, totally transforming its effect.
At DIY Homefit we do like the slogan on The Co-operative Food range of reusable shopping bags – “Carrier bags are rubbish”. The bags are available in a number of sizes and designs but all in a striking turquoise colour and bearing the slogan. Since the introduction of the compulsory charge for plastic carrier bags in October, all large stores are now offering customers a range of alternative longer-lasting bags to purchase.
You know when you can’t get a song out of your head?! Well that old Cole Porter song “Another Opening Another Show” is in ours at the moment. The lyrics are all about preparing for opening night and in a way they remind us of preparing for Christmas. Every year, despite our best intentions to keep things simple, most of us get swept up in the Christmas frenzy!
As the nights are drawing in our thoughts turn to lighting our homes accordingly. But have you tried to buy a light bulb recently? It used to be easy but the specifications have changed so much over the past few years that many of us now feel confused. It can be hard to get to grips with what all the abbreviations mean and how the wattage of the newer bulbs – especially the energy saving ones – relates to the old ones.
