New Year’s Resolutions!
At the beginning of another year many of us are determined to make positive changes in our lives over the coming year. For some, it will indeed be a year of change where we manage to form new habits and move forward in some areas of our lives. For others it may, sadly, be a case of “plus ca change”. The same list is written, then quietly forgotten within weeks …. if not days!
Let’s take a look at some of the Top 5 resolutions that many of us may have made for 2016 – and how DIY Homefit can help you to keep them!
Get fitter and healthier
This is always top of the list! We’re going to eat more healthily, drink less, get more exercise, more rest and more sleep. Which all sounds good and perfectly do-able – at least on paper. Then life takes over!
DIY Homefit can’t promise you any quick fixes to some of these but what we can do is provide the tools for either a kitchen refurbishment or bedroom makeover. Even making small changes in your home can underpin larger lifestyle changes. If you re-organise your kitchen so that there is specific space for healthier foods then that could help with the healthy eating lifestyle change.
Also if things are easier to find in your kitchen you’ll waste less time and energy looking for them and can put that to good use by going for a quick run instead! Similarly if you spruce up your bedroom you are likely to want to spend more time there which will encourage you to rest more. So, proverbially speaking we can lead you to water – it’s then up to you to drink!
Bring finances under control
Despite our best intentions, we always tend to spend more on Christmas than planned. Then comes January! It’s a long month anyway, and for those that get paid earlier than usual in December, there can be too much month left at the end of the money.
Will 2016 be the year when you get on top of things? It’s a good idea to make a financial plan for the year, and include – right from the start – allocating some money each month both to chip away at those credit cards and also to save a little for next Christmas so you don’t end up in this position again.
But what about those home improvements you really wanted to get done this year? DIY Homefit can really help here! We have a wide range of home improvement products that are so flexible you can introduce them in a gradual way. For example you may decide to do a partial kitchen refurbishment now – perhaps just replacing some kitchen cabinet doors – then augment that with some matching kitchen furniture later on when your finances are a little more stable. Our ranges are so flexible that you can mix and match at any stage – check them out here to see what we mean!
Declutter your life
Yes we always say this but let’s make it happen! If you’re anything like us, the thought of your attic, garage or understairs cupboard fills you with horror! But you can overcome! The trick is to do one thing at a time. It’s easy to start then get distracted and the whole house ends up a complete mess.
But why not set aside one weekend a month to sort out one area? Then by spring you should be sorted. Be ruthless! Adhere to the wisdom of William Morris: “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.”
If it’s been lying in the garage for 5 years it does not need to stay! Who knows, you may also be able to make money from your unwanted clutter. Ebay, Gumtree, car boot sales and local advertising sites can all reap dividends! Then why not organise the stuff you are going to keep with some of DIY Homefit’s storage solutions?
Our kitchen cabinet range can also be used in other rooms, not just kitchens! So whether it’s an office, an understairs cupboard or a garage, they can help you stay decluttered. If you need extra help organising clothing then we also have some clever ideas for that too – have a look at these here.
Stylish not sloppy
How is it that some people have style and others simply don’t? Or at least that can be how it feels when you admire someone else’s fashion sense or style and suddenly feel yourself wanting in that area. Interestingly enough, these feelings can often be subjective and for all you know they are feeling the same about you!
But a new year is always a good time to reevaluate where you’re at and what you want out of life. If you do want to reinvent your wardrobe, now is a good time to do it. Why not reinforce that by a mini bedroom makeover? DIY Homefit has a comprehensive range of sliding wardrobe doors – many of them mirrored so you can check yourself out from every angle!
Having a swish new wardrobe will also incentivise you to keep your clothes well organised and just give you a boost when you’re getting ready for another long day. Have a look here at some of our styles and see which is going to fit best with the new you!
Spend more time with family and friends
At Christmas we can have almost an overload of social events, spending time with family and friends near and far. No wonder we feel exhausted by January! But it’s such a shame that we will not then see many of these people until next Christmas. Perhaps you’ve resolved to make 2016 different? DIY Homefit can help in many ways here!
If you are planning to do more entertaining then you may well want to reconfigure your kitchen so that people can dine informally. With our various ranges of kitchen furniture this could be a lot easier to do than you think. Have a look at some of our finished kitchens to get some ideas for what you could do. Remember at DIY Homefit we provide excellent quality at excellent prices. Always.
We hope that 2016 is a wonderful year for you and yours, and that you do indeed stick to whatever resolutions you have made. We also hope that DIY Homefit will be able to help you do just that!
