Men’s Sheds!
Yes, there really is an organisation called Men’s Sheds! The concept originated in Australia and is now spreading throughout the UK, with the support of Age UK.
It aims to bring together older men who may otherwise perhaps be lonely and somewhat at a loose end. It is a place for men to share the tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own choosing at their own pace and in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue.
In a recent blog, we referred to some DIY tools that would be welcome gifts for Father’s Day. We ended the article by featuring a Man Tin for storing essential bits and pieces and commented that, should more space be needed, perhaps a shed would be the next option!
There is indeed a popular belief that men need sheds; a place to call their own, to go and feel both at peace with the world and in control of your environment. Don’t we all want that? Not just men but women too! There seems to be a growing trend in home search programmes such as Escape to The Country for people to want that little bit of territory to call their own.
What many people are now considering is building some kind of annexe or outbuilding for use as the proverbial shed. In reality it may be used as an office, workshop, craft room, writing room, music room or a myriad of other uses. But a really cost effective way to kit out an annexe or outbuilding is to use DIY Furniture.
Here we feature some examples from our range that may be of particular interest.
In our kitchen furniture section there is a wide variety of drawers and cupboards that would be ideal for kitting out a new room. Clever storage solutions that can help you hide away all your essential bits and pieces whilst looking stylish! The images below show some of the drawer, cupboard and wall unit combinations available:
Similarly there is a wide range of bedroom furniture available – see a few examples below. Just because these are included in our bedroom range does not exclude them from being used elsewhere! Just like the kitchen ranges, there is an array of different door designs that can then be used to front the unit and fit in with whatever colour scheme or style you are using for your new room.
Whatever the size, shape, style or intended use of your annexe or outbuilding, it makes sense to go the DIY Furniture route to fit out the room in a high quality way at a reasonable cost.
