Boxing Day Every Day
As we all know, Boxing Day is the day after Christmas, December 26th. There are various explanations of how the tradition of Boxing Day evolved, but it seems to date back to the Middle Ages and was a day when servants would be given the day off and would receive gifts, known as “Christmas boxes” from their employers. Even now, when gifts are usually given on Christmas Day, Boxing Day is very much part of the Christmas holiday festivities. Most people are lucky enough to have the day off and continue celebrating the season with family and friends.
In recent years it has gradually become more on trend to use boxes for storage. We don’t mean tatty cardboard boxes stuffed into the garage! But boxes in all kinds of textures, styles, and finishes such as wicker, fabric, decorated card, metal, and glossy acrylic. Not only are these functional but they are often used to showcase prize possessions or to add a touch of panache to a room.
At DIY Homefit we have noticed a similar growing trend in kitchen and bedroom design too, in that visible storage areas are often incorporated into kitchen and bedroom bespoke furniture. The units then become not simply storage units but display units as well. This trend is both practical and stylish! Here are some examples of visible storage from our ranges of replacement kitchen doors and replacement wardrobe doors:
