In this article we give you our Top Ten Tips for keeping your bespoke furniture in tip top condition. There’s no point spending time and effort on a kitchen refurbishment if you don’t then take good care of it afterwards.

The following do’s and don’t’s for installation and maintenance should help!

  1. Before installation, DON’T store your kitchen furniture in a newly plastered room or damp environment.

  2. If you are storing your items before installation DO keep them flat.

  3. To clean kitchen door surfaces and laminate worktops DO use a soft cloth, dampened with warm soapy water, then dry off with a soft dry cloth.

  4. DON’T use aggressive cleaning liquids or such items as scouring pads on your kitchen doors or laminate worktops.

  5. DON’T use an appliance that generates high levels of heat or steam (such as a toaster, kettle or pressure cooker) directly under or adjacent to a door or panel.

  6. DO use heat deflector strips to shield doors from adjacent ovens or other sources of heat.

  7. DO allow high gloss cabinet doors to ‘cure’ for seven days after removing the protective film. Please treat very carefully during this period and avoid cleaning or wiping as much as possible.

  8. DO wipe away strong coloured spillages such as curry, beetroot, blackcurrant juice, red wine from laminate surfaces immediately to avoid staining

  9. DO keep your laminate worktop dry, particularly around the sink and over any joints; no matter how good the seals are, water can often find the slightest weaknesses.

  10. DO protect your laminate worktop from hot pots, utensils etc by using heat resistant trivets or surface protectors. Never take anything out of the oven or off the hob and place it directly on the surface of the worktop. Boiling water and cooking splashes will not harm your worktops, but should be wiped off as soon as possible.

With careful installation and ongoing maintenance, your new kitchen doors and laminate worktops should withstand normal domestic use for many years to come, meaning that you can relax and enjoy cooking, dining and entertaining in your lovely new kitchen.
