The Great British Bake Off

In recent years, baking has become all the rage in this country! First there was the gradual increase in popularity of “cupcakes” – which we think used to be called Fairy Cakes in our youth! At DIY Homefit we first noticed the cup cakes phenomenon back in 2008, when the Press reported on Heidi Klum’s birthday gift to Victoria Beckham of a year’s supply of cup cakes.

“Exceedingly Posh Cakes” was the headline! A quiet news day perhaps but, as with anything, once we had noticed cup cakes they literally seemed to spring up all over the place!   This led to a growing interest in baking, particularly cakes. Suddenly it was cool to stay in and bake in your bespoke kitchen instead of partying the night away in someone else’s! It was no surprise, therefore, that the series ‘The Great British Bake Off’ – which first aired in 2010 – has become such a runaway success, as a whole new generation of enthusiastic bakers takes to their kitchens!
