How to choose the best colours for your kitchen

There are three main things to consider when choosing a colour theme for your kitchen:

• The size and style of your kitchen

Paler colours can reflect light around your kitchen and make it look larger. So if you have a small kitchen it may be better to opt for paler colours for this reason. If you have a larger space, you have more scope to use either darker colours or a combination of colours without detracting from the space.

• The colours you like

This may sound obvious, but too many people end up with a kitchen that looks wonderful but doesn’t make them feel happy. You spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so it’s important to surround yourself with colours that you enjoy being around. 

• The ambience you want

Different colours affect the ambience of your kitchen in different ways. For example, green can convey a back to nature feel, blue is generally a calming and peaceful colour, and brighter colours such as reds or yellow can bring a real sense of energy to a room.

We’ve been doing our research to see what colours are on trend for 2021 kitchens. We’ve come across three themes that we want to share with you today.

Greens

Green is one of the most popular colours for kitchens at the moment. It seems like you can’t go wrong with any shade of green. Sage green works well in contemporary kitchens, whereas darker greens are great at enhancing a more classical style kitchen. Mint and apple green also bring a welcome freshness to any kitchen.

Perhaps green is popular because of the desire to reflect something of nature in our homes: bringing the outside in. But, whatever your reason for choosing green, it is certainly a smart choice right now.

Blues

Blue is another colour that is currently being widely used in kitchens. Popular colours include navy, nautical blue, pastel blue and turquoise. Also popular are two tone kitchens, where one of these shades of blue is used with another matching or contrasting colour.

Earthy neutrals
